MY30 Pass
The MY30 Monthly Pass Initiative was introduced under PENJANA and further expanded under Budget 2021 to alleviate the travel costs of daily public transport commuters. At only RM30 per month, users can enjoy unlimited travel using Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), KL Monorail, and KL Rapid bus.
Small daily expenses do add up to into a sizable chunk of one’s monthly expenses, particularly for the average worker earning less than RM3,000 monthly and living in a city. Your daily commute might cost RM4.80 but let’s say you work 6 days a week, that small daily sum accumulates to around RM115 per month. In short, daily travelling costs could be a sizable sum of the average worker’s expenses, and a burden on top of their other monthly commitments.
Additionally, My30 also covers Rapid Kuantan and Rapid Penang to ensure communities in cities outside the Klang Valley are also able to enjoy the benefits of this initiative. This subsidised mobility is one of a whole raft of measures – from direct aid, electricity discount, wage subsidy and grants for small businesses – that demonstrates the holistic nature of the government’s efforts to ensure the rakyat’s wellbeing.
The initiative,
The initiative, which was initially introduced under the Penjana package, was so well received by the rakyat that it was re-introduced in Budget 2021.
